To fix the Downloader app not installing

To fix the Downloader app not installing on a Firestick, ensure you have sufficient storage space, restart the device, and check your Amazon account payment settings. For “app not installed” errors during sideloading, enable “Install unknown apps” for Downloader in Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options. Note that Fire TV Stick 4K Select versions do not support the Downloader app.

Steps to Fix Downloader Installation & Usage:

  • Check Storage & Restart: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage to check for free space, then Restart the device.
  • Enable Unknown Sources:
    • Go to Settings > My Fire TV.
    • Select Developer Options > Install unknown apps > Downloader and turn it ON.
    • If Developer Options is missing: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About, then select the Fire TV device name 7 times to unlock it.
  • Clear Appstore Cache: Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Amazon Appstore > Clear Cache and Clear Data.
  • Alternative Install Method: Use the Search icon from the home screen, type “Downloader” (by AFTV News), and try installing it again.

To fix “An Unknown Error Has Occurred. Check Your URL and Connection”

To fix “An Unknown Error Has Occurred. Check Your URL and Connection” in the Firestick Downloader app, first ensure the URL is accurate (including https:// or using short codes). Key solutions include enabling “Install Unknown Apps” in Developer Options, clearing app cache/data, or restarting your router to ensure a stable connection.

Quick Fixes for Downloader URL Errors:

  • Check the URL/Code: Ensure there are no spaces, capitalization errors, or typos, especially in long URLs.
  • Enable Unknown Sources: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install unknown apps and turn it ON for Downloader.
  • Clear App Data & Cache: Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Downloader and select Clear Data then Clear Cache.
  • Restart/Power Cycle: Unplug your Firestick from power for 30 seconds and plug it back in to resolve network or system glitches.
  • Reinstall Downloader: Uninstall the app, then reinstall it from the Amazon Appstore.
  • Use a VPN: Your ISP may be blocking the download; using a VPN can bypass these restrictions.
  • Check Server Status: If the URL is correct, the hosting website may be down. Try again later.

To fix a “Firestick app not installed”

To fix a “Firestick app not installed” error, start by freeing up storage space (at least 1GB needed), clearing the Amazon Appstore cache, and restarting the device via Settings > My Fire TV > Restart. If sideloading, ensure “Apps from Unknown Sources” is enabled in Developer Options.

Common Fixes for Firestick App Not Installed/Found:

  • Free Up Storage Space: Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications to delete unused apps. A lack of storage is a common cause for installation failures.
  • Restart the Firestick: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Restart to resolve temporary software issues.
  • Clear Appstore Cache/Data: Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Amazon Appstore and select “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data”.
  • Enable Unknown Sources: If installing via Downloader, go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install Unknown Apps and ensure the Downloader app is allowed.
  • Check for Updates: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for System Update.
  • Remove Existing Version: If attempting to install a modified version of an app, you must uninstall the original version first.
  • Re-register Account: Sometimes, setting the Amazon account to “Basic” instead of “Full Experience” limits app availability.
  • If all else fails, a factory reset (Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults) may be necessary, but this will erase all personal data.
